Doumo and konnichiwa! My name is Charles Winstead. I will be contributing to this wonderful blog starting this summer. I feel that it is my duty to introduce myself a little bit so that you, my readers, can know ‘where I am coming from.’
First, I lived in Japan for 3.5 years in Mie prefecture. Perhaps in a later blog I can find some interesting research about the places I lived and the companies i worked for.
I made the conscious decision one winter to stay American while in Japan. While I did not want to be a noisy gaijin, I knew, (and believe differently now) I felt I had to ‘stay true to the red, white, and blue’ to survive.
My major was mass communications. I spent many hours at the music building and its surrounding events and locales. I also spent a lot of time in the theatre doing various jobs. I also spent a lot of time in the editing suite after i made videos.
Now I am back in school receiving my MALS (liberal arts) degree and I am focusing on Japan. I will be using this space to “blog” and “vlog” about my personal experiences and papers on Japan.
I will start with using this space to journal about my summer 2011 course on taiko.
I would mention the acknowledgements here, but just in case they do not want their names, I will just say “I tip my hat” and deeply bow for this opportunity would not be possible without you and your support. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu.
